The James House Art Hive

A community art hub for individuals facing homelessness

About The James House Art Hive

The James House Art Hive is a community-based hub that provides creative programming for individuals facing homelessness to foster healthy connections and benefit from the therapeutic nature of art.

Modelled after an international network of community art studios, The James House Art Hive was born of a collective mindset that everyone deserves places of belonging where they can express themselves.

We are located in the community of Hillhurst attached to The James House, which provides safe and stable housing options and individualized support for 27 individuals facing homelessness. The James House Art Hive is open to anyone facing homelessness and to community members who want to get involved.

The James House Art Hive supports individuals to hone their artistic talent through a variety of individual and group-based activities 5 times a week via two hour sessions, including:

  • Art kits
  • Art walks in the community
  • Guest instructors from the Calgary arts community
  • Community art exhibits
  • Special events
